International Women's Day
What is International Women's Day?
International Women's Day (IWD) celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievement of women. IWD has been observed since the early 1900s. March 8 has been the global date for IWD since 1914 when women across Europe held rallies to campaign against the war and to express women's solidarity.
Over the last century, IWD has grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration across developed and developing countries alike. Every year, thousands of events are held to inspire women and celebrate their achievements, but also to highlight areas where work remains to be done in business, politics, education, health, and combating gender-based violence.
Since 2013, WorldDenver has hosted Denver's premier International Women's Day celebration. The event continues to expand, with over 400 people participating in 2016.
