About Dr. Kakenya Ntaiya
Dr. Kakenya Ntaiya is the Founder and President of Kakenya Center for Excellence (KCE). Kakenya was the first girl to leave the village of Enoosaen, Kenya, to attend university abroad. She founded KCE in 2009 as a way to give young girls in her rural Maasai community a chance to pursue their dreams for the future. Currently, the school has 183 girls in grades 4-8 and 55 graduates in high schools throughout the country. In an effort to reach more girls with vital health education, Kakenya began Health and Leadership Trainings in 2011. This community programming has now reached 1,600 adolescents from 50 neighboring schools. Recognizing this transformational change for girls in marginalized and remote regions, Kakenya was recently named a Top 10 CNN Hero. Her TEDx talk has reached more than 2 million viewers. Kakenya has been speaking around the world to raise awareness about the interconnected issue of education and FGM/early marriage. Recenlty Kakenya joined UN Ambassador Ban-Ki-moon at the launching of the global media campaign to fight FGM.
