World Affairs Challenge
Step 6: Showcase, Share, and Advocate!
Timeframe: at least 1 week
STEP 6: Showcase, Share, and Advocate
Share what you have learned and the progress you have made on your project.
You have done a lot of work to research your chosen issue and devise a plan to take action on that issue, and it is important to share what you have learned! When you share your findings, you invite others to join the cause and advocate for sustainability in their own circles.
Share your project independently using social media, via your school or town news outlets, or at a school or community event.
More people taking action leads to change on a larger scale!
In Step 6:
Hear from Representative Naquetta Ricks on how to make sure your voices are heard on issues you care about in your community:
Representative Naquetta Ricks serves in local government here in Denver, Colorado, USA. She is originally from Liberia and is very involved in advocating for African communities and development from here in the USA. She wanted to share some words of inspiration and some advice on how you can most effectively continue to advocate for the issues you care about in your communities, using the tools available to you and by contacting your local leadership. Her background makes her a leader who actually represents the experiences of the people she serves, and she is very passionate about the importance of young people like you getting involved in your local government and investing your time and energy into improving your communities!
Consider how you will share what you have learned AND how you will advocate for progress on sustainability initiatives in your area!
Your team spent a lot of time during WAC learning about your global issue inside and out – in addition to implementing your project in your community, how will you spread the word about your findings with a larger audience? Can you enlist volunteers to help with your project? Can you speak to a club or an administrator at your school? Can you create a social media campaign designed to share knowledge around your issue of focus? Can you make your voice heard in local government or leadership? The options are endless!
Use the resources below for some ideas on how you can communicate your findings and continue to stay involved with current events related to your issue.

Watch “What Does Advocacy Actually Mean?”
Thank you to our partner Far Away Friends for sharing this resource! We love how they describe advocacy: “Advocacy is not just a buzzword; it’s a dynamic force that has the potential to create ripples of change, transcending borders and transforming lives. It’s about using our voices, connections, and shared experiences to bring attention to crucial issues, challenge the status quo, and pave the way for meaningful action.”

What specific actions can you take to find your voice?
What would you recommend to others at your school about how to take action and speak up about things they care about?
