There are 2 ways to participate in the World Affairs Challenge Program, both of which involve participation through the Global Championship in April.
A group of 3-8 youth can form a team to join the WAC Open Competition which begins in January. The team will research a problem and outline a S.M.A.R.T. solution that they can implement, and make a video presentation of their project. Each team will meet with a panel of trained project evaluators called “judges” in March who will score their project idea. All teams registered in the WAC Open are invited to attend the virtual Global Championship in April during which winning teams in both the middle and high school divisions are announced, and all students can participate in the Collaborative Question Experience.
Base pricing for the WAC Open Competition is $150 per team, and each additional team may enroll at a discounted price up to 4 teams. Scholarships are available, and WAC staff looks forward to working with interested schools to make the program financially feasible.
Schools or community organizations can register to host their own WAC competition within a class or facilitate participation in the program across several classes or grades, with a minimum of 5 teams of 3-8 students each. WorldDenver will provide the resources to build a WAC program structure that fits the school’s schedule and aligns with existing curriculum.
Base pricing for a WAC Intramural is $75 per team, with discounts available depending on the structure of your intramural program.
The Global Championship takes place in early April via Zoom. Beginning in March, all teams will submit a 10-minute video of their project research & proposed solution for judges to review, and then will meet with judges in a Q&A session. Winning teams are announced at the virtual Global Championship event, and all teams are invited to participate in the Collaborative Question experience during the event. The top 3 middle and high school teams qualify to apply for a mini-grant to support their project implementation.
The Showcase is open to all WAC participants free of charge, and we encourage students to attend and share their project progress!
